A Christmas Wish

Sneh Jaisingh~ By sneh Jaisingh

We Indians are fun loving people, be it Diwali or Christmas We just look for a reason to celebrate and I love that about our community. Like most of us, I am all geared up in Christmas spirit.
"What would you like this Christmas?", I asked myself

"A small vacation and some attention, is all I ask", said my Body.
"Huh! What? Can you be more specific?", I asked.

My body smiled and said, "I have been good to you all year. I tried to digest all the weird foods that you provided, some I recognized and some totally alien to me (processed foods, artificial  sweeteners, GMOs etc). Had a hard time every time you ate weird combinations of foods like milk and citrus fruits, hot and cold foods together, late night snacks, etc"

ISW Diwali at Senior Center

ISW celebrated Diwali on the 26th of October 2011 at the Senior Center in Worcester. It ws celebrated on the Auspicious day of the Diwali itself. We had a choreographer Shaila Verma and her student perform 2 two dances for the Seniors there.

Diwali 2011 Cultural Show

A Diwali celebration put up by our ISW organization at Oak Middle School, Shrewsbury on Nov 12, 2011 was indeed spectacular, the excitement and enjoyment by the 200 plus performers was clearly showed their faces. The theme of the evening was "Celebration of our Culture with different Gods of India".

Teaching in the field (in India)

Preeyanka~ by Preeyanka Shah

People are always curious about what I did during my past two years in India.  The truth is, for a large part of my first year, I was a middle school English teacher.  I taught 6th, 7th and 8th graders how to read, write, speak and listen in English and I prepared them to pass the Madhya Pradesh government board exams in English.  Most of my students came from families living below the poverty line and were first generation school-goers.  In addition, many of them were the only ones in their family who could read and write in any language.

It’s all a mind game

~ by Sneh Jaisingh
snehIt is a man’s own mind, not his enemy or foe that lures him to evil ways.
~Buddha

“Don’t”, “limit”, “avoid” are perhaps the most common initial words of dietary advice given to us from our health care providers. As soon as we hear these words our mind, that enjoys freedom, is not happy, it takes over and says why not? And the mind game begins.
