Diwali Puja 2009 - at India Center

ISW organized Diwali Puja for its members on October 10th 2009 at the India Center. The event started with Bhajans followed by Puja of Goddess Laxmi. The Puja was performed by Mrs. Usha Verma.

Mrs Verma did an excellent job of explaining the meaning behind all the steps of performing the Puja. Many of the ISW Members were dressed in authentic Indian clothes with adults and kids all greeting each other good wishes of Diwali and a prosperous New Year.

A potluck dinner followed by a game of “Antakshari” turned out to be the perfect ending for this occasion. Antakshari was carried out in two teams of Men against Women. It was fun to watch the “Generation Span” in the selection of songs narrated by the participants. You could hear comments like “Was this ever really a film song?” in the background, with a tone of amazement in their speech. It was also fun to discover the undiscovered singing talents of some of our members. Some of the serious looking old timers also surprised us with a few humorous melodies. Women claim that they were the winners. Men were a little hazy about this claim. One thing that both parties agreed upon was that Men indeed gave an unexpected tough competition to women. It was a lot of fun.

India Center was decked up in color of lights to celebrate this festival of Lights. It was refreshing to see our younger volunteers to have so much fun in decorating for Diwali with the true spirit of Diwali like back home.
