About the India Society of Worcester Indian Youth Group (IYG)
IYG was founded by Carloyn Passey in 1991 with a motive to bring Youth of Indian origin together to make them aware of their importance in the community. This was achieved by doing several community services during the year. Students conduct their monthly meetings to plan their activities. IYG members elect an Executive Committee consisting of President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Asst Treasurer. During the year members perform several community service programs and few fun activities. The end result is that they have a place where they have fun, be part of the community and feel proud of their heritage.
In recent years IYG elects a committee chair to run each event. Committee Chair is responsible for planning participation by IYG members, keeping track of participants, sending reminders and letting members know the logistics of the event. This offers an excellent opportunity for the committee chair to learn leadership, organization skills.
All IYG members have an opportunity through participation to develop team building and leadershi skills while having fun through the activities.
Some of the activities that are performed every year are:
- Humrahi Holi in March
- Showcase India in April
- Walk-for-Hunger in May
- IYG General Elections in June
- Games in ISW picnic in July
- Six flags trip in July
- Children’s room in India Day in August
- Hampton Beach trip in August
- Walk to cure Cancer in September
- Refugee Apostolate help in November
