Magical library card!

Hi, I’m Priya Rathnam, the reference librarian at the Shrewsbury Public Library. Most of you are probably familiar with the resources available at the library. If you are a resident of Shrewsbury, you can get a library card for free and then you can borrow books, music CDs, MP3-CDs, audio books, movies, video games, art work, discovery kits, and periodicals (magazines). You can also avail of the resources at all the libraries in the Central Mass region and can request materials from any of the libraries and then pick them up at SPL.

Help! I can't Meditate

Do you wish to meditate regularly and experience peace, tranquility and happiness in your life?

Many people tell me that they would like to have this experience but their mind continues having thoughts during meditation. They feel that blank mind is a prerequisite for meditating successfully. My Guru, Avdhoot Baba Shivanand says that thoughts are knots of pent up emotions in our mind and body.  Once these knots are opened, a flood of thoughts and emotions emerges from them. It comes with such a force that we are swept away in the strong currents of these thoughts.  The moment we realize what is happening, we try to struggle our way out of it. The fact is that these thoughts need to be released in order for us to “detangle”.

Yoga Classes at India Center

~by Bharati Bhakta

ISW just added yet another regular activity to its long list of activities - all volunteer organized and volunteer run. This new activity is a weekly Yoga class  - every Saturday at India Center - for quick facts on the activity, please click here

Yoga, an ancient holistic wisdom of India, is a practical, methodological and systemic discipline for unfolding the unlimited potentials of mankind. Handed down to us in form of living tradition which was been systemized by Sage Patanjali (200BC) in the form of sutra now called Patanjali Yoga Sutra.
The definition of Yoga is derived from the Sanskrit root “yuj” means to yoke or unite.

Bombay’s workhorse

Bombays Workhorse Taxi PictureBy Raj Melville

We have been fortunate to visit our home, in Bombay, India, on a regular basis the past decade. With the dawn of the new century, India has been propelled onto an accelerated trajectory of growth. Each trip continues to assault the senses with changes in every direction. New buildings seem to spring out whole from formerly deserted land or shoehorned into the crazy quilt urban landscape. The acrid whiff of thousands of trucks, cars and two wheelers gets stronger every year. The continuous hum of traffic, the incessant honking adds to the background noise.
