It has evolved over the centuries and was formulated into the Yoga Sutras by sage Patanjali. He has formulated Yoga as an Eight Limbs or Eight Fold path which leads to Self realization. Yoga is derived from Sanskrit word Yuj. It means integration or union. Thus Yoga is total integration of human personality at increasingly subtle levels which leads to Union of Atma with Parmatma or pranic energy with cosmic energy. Yoga leads to higher state of awareness. It restores mind to its simple, calm and original peaceful nature.
