What is religion ?

Religion is a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a  numbers of persons or sects. There are many different meanings and descriptions of this word. It can be defined as a set of  beliefs concerning the cause, nature and purpose of the universe. It usually involves devotional and ritual observances and contains a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.
It also can be said in other words as something one believes or have faith in and follows devotedly from bottom of the heart and in dedicated manner. So it may be a belief in God , super Power, any kind of Art, culture, Philosophy, Thoughts and so on. It is an expression or way of worshipping something which someone believes and have faith in.

Thinking this term in such a broader way, we have come up with  new concept for  Religious Program of ISW -Sadhana

Sadhana - Sadhana is a dedicated and disciplined cultivation of knowledge or an ability. So our Sadhana program will consist of all kinds of activities where we can see heart felt dedication.

It might be a devotional pooja or worshipping to The God/ super power, it might be a some lecture related to some religion and its teachings / philosophy, it might be a presentation of expressing respect to teachers or gurus through some cultural program, it might be a celebration of some festival following its rituals and many more.So we are pleased to invite you with your novel ideas and concepts where we can come together and work for this "Sadhana"
The format of the Sadhana event will vary according to occasion, festival of the month. We also have received a request from many of our members that they would like to sponsor one of the Sadhana or Satsang event, we will love to have those sponsors to come over and sponsor any event as they wish.
Upcoming Sadhana programs in coming months - being planned .............stay tuned
All are invited to these events of Religious Sadhana. The events are free to all.
*** Please email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  if you have any ideas for these kind of programs of "Sadhana"

Yoga Classes at India Center

Yoga is for every one. Each individual does it in their own comfort zone. The purpose of Yoga is self realization. Yoga brings discipline in life.Quality of life improves with regular yoga practice.

Yoga is an ancient holistic wisdom of India. It is a practical, methodological and systemic discipline for unfolding the unlimited potentialities of mankind. It has evolved over the centuries and was formulated into the Yoga Sutras by sage Patanjali. He has formulated Yoga as an Eight Limbs or Eight Fold path which leads to Self realization. Yoga is derived from Sanskrit word Yuj. It means integration or union. Thus Yoga is total integration of human personality at increasingly subtle levels which leads to Union of Atma with Parmatma or pranic energy with cosmic energy. Yoga leads to higher state of awareness. It restores mind to its simple, calm and original peaceful nature. Practicing Asana regularly increases circulation of fresh blood throughout the body and keeps body free of disease and toxins which are consequences of unhealthy habits and fast life style.

Eight steps to follow are-

  1. Yama (Principles or moral code)
  2. Niyama (Personal Disciplines)
  3. Asana (Yoga Positions or Yogic Postures)
  4. Pranayamas (Yogic Breathing)
  5. Pratyahara (Withdrawal of Senses)
