    1)This Sunday, for assembly we will be making Diwali sweet ( kids version) and listening to a Diwali story. Please note down the ingredients needed for Chocolate Barfi-

    Ingredients -

    2 cups whole milk powder (available at any grocery store in the aisle with the Hershey syrup/hot cocoa)

    1 can condensed milk 14 oz

    1/2 cup butter (1 stick)

    1/2 tsp fine Elaichi powder

    1 tsp rose water

    1 bag semi-sweet chocolate chips (8-10 oz bag)

    2 tbsp heavy whipping cream

    Silver leaf/nuts/rose petals for the top.

    Supply list -

    One big 6 cup, one small 2 cup and one 1 cup - all microwave safe bowls.

    2 spatulas,

    measuring cups and spoons, parchment paper,

    a square or rectangle dish to set the Mithai in.

    A microwave and heat safe gloves or pot holders and a knife( to cut barfi)

    2) Also, This Sunday Kids are welcome to wear and show their Halloween costume during their class and assembly. It will be fun.

    3) If anyone is interested in joining a group Diwali dance, please send an email to school@iswonline.org with your name, age and gender. The event is to be held virtually on November 21st (Sunday).

    4)A message from Cultural Diwali team-(Virtual on Nov 21st)

    In addition to cultural programs, this year we thought it would be nice to include a Diya painting contest. Can we ask you to spread awareness about this Diya painting contest during the weekend Language/Cultural School?

    Here's what the competition is about -

    This will be a Diwali Diya contest. Draw a diya, paint a diya, decorate a clay diya, make a clay diya from scratch - let your imagination run wild. Participants of all ages welcome.

    Send us a short video (Max 1 min) explaining your art work and creation.

    They be able to learn vegetables, fruits name and all colours in Guajarati. 

    They be able to write their name in Guajarati.


    Written practice for letters and words can be followed as in book.

    The worksheets for letters, pictures can be prepared to teach.


    Teachers can breakdown the syllabus term wise according to the ability & co-operation of students and divide them into groups.


    At all-time Gujarati and English must be spoken in the class.

They should be able to use barakhadi to write and read two, three or more letter simple words -by pictures as well as words and know the meaning in English. They should be able to speak, read, write and understand all the vowels. They should be able to make small simple three to

    four words sentences. 


    They must be able to Speak, Read, and understand numbers from 1 to 50.

    They be able to Speak and understand all seven Days and time of the day.


    The class can be distributed into groups by the ability and the age of the students.

    Teachers can breakdown the syllabus term wise according to the ability & co-operation of

    Students and divide them into groups.

     ISW Tutoring program Summary

    ISW School launched a new online Students & Tutor match program to help parents with arranging one on one online tutoring for the kids with help from IYG.  The topics can be Math, Physics, Science, English, Languages and Life skills like Time Management.  The hours would be volunteer hours, based on student tutor availability. For the initial pilot program, it would be open to ISW members only and IYG members, so we can monitor this program for online safety.

    1. Program will run from September to the end of June 2021, however commitment is expected from our volunteers until the end of January 2021, for now.

    2.  Student tutors will be in grade 9 or up

    3. One on one tutoring was recommended since some kids would be hesitant to ask questions in a larger setting

    4. One-hour training/orientation for safe online etiquette to be held for student tutors

    5.  Before classes start, an initial meeting to held possibly 4-way between (a) Parents of student and (b) student tutors and (c) assigned Student tutors (d) ISW school rep

    6.  Personal WebEx/Zoom to be set up by parents or student tutors, will not be set up by ISW.

    7.  Volunteer hours to be signed by IYG advisor: Shubh Agrawal

    8.  CORI check for student tutors between 14-18 years is a TBD. 

    9. Attendance spreadsheet on google doc to be set up and filled out by student tutors 

    10 Email exchanges between parents and tutors to be CC  tutoring@iswonline.org to ensure online safety

    New ISW Tutoring program

    ISW Cultural and Language School is launching a new online Students & Tutor match program to help IYG members get volunteer hours and help parents by providing one on one online tutoring for their kids with help from IYG members.
