Echoes of Freedom: Celebrating 250 Years of Liberty & Devotion

The India Society of Worcester (ISW) celebrated its 14th Annual Ganeshotsav at the India Center, bringing together devotion, culture, music, dance, and community spirit in a beautiful celebration of Ganapati Bappa.

This year’s theme, “Echoes of Freedom: Celebrating 250 Years of Liberty & Devotion,” beautifully connected the spirit of freedom with the timeless devotion to Lord Ganesha. The centerpiece of the celebration was the magnificent Mount Rushmore backdrop, which added a unique dimension to the Ganapati decoration and beautifully complemented Bappa’s presence.

The festivities began in the afternoon with a vibrant and energetic Dhol Tasha Lezim procession, welcoming Ganapati Bappa in traditional Maharashtrian style. The powerful beats of the Dhol and Tasha, accompanied by Lezim, created an atmosphere of excitement and devotion as Bappa was ceremoniously welcomed to the India Center.

The Ganapati Puja was conducted under the guidance of Shri. Shrikant Joshi, bringing together devotees in prayer and devotion. More than 150 devotees participated in the Puja, Maha Aarti, and Prashad, making the spiritual gathering a deeply meaningful part of the celebration.

The cultural program reflected the richness and diversity of ISW’s artistic community. One of the highlights was the energetic Dhol Tasha Ensemble performance by ISW Symphony’s own Kids’ DTL team, showcasing the enthusiasm, discipline, and talent of our young performers.

A theme-based skit celebrating the Presidents of the United States was very well received by the audience. Through an engaging blend of storytelling and performance, the skit brought the theme of the year to life and added a meaningful connection to the celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.

The program also featured articulate and graceful dance performances by Humrahee and ISW volunteers, along with a beautiful devotional music medley presented by talented young performers. Together, these performances created a wonderful blend of tradition, creativity, and youthful energy.

Another major highlight was the Ganapati Visarjan Procession, featuring more than 15 Dhol Tasha Lezim performers. The procession brought the celebration to a vibrant and energetic conclusion.

The ISW premises came alive with the powerful sounds of Dhols, Tashas, Tols, Lezim, Taals, and Zendes, showcasing the rhythm, tradition, and collective spirit of the community. The enthusiasm of the performers and the participation of devotees made the Visarjan procession a memorable culmination of the celebration.

With approximately 200 attendees, this year’s Ganeshotsav was a wonderful reflection of the spirit of togetherness that defines the ISW community. From devotion and traditional rituals to music, dance, theatre, and Dhol Tasha, every element contributed to a celebration that honored both our cultural heritage and the spirit of freedom.

The evening concluded with a delicious traditional Maharashtrian dinner, giving everyone an opportunity to gather, connect, and share the joy of the celebration.

The 14th Annual Ganeshotsav was truly a celebration of devotion, culture, freedom, and community—bringing generations together to celebrate Bappa while creating new memories and carrying our traditions forward.
