Shaping Tradition, One Idol at a Time
For more than 12 years, the ISW Ganesha Idol Workshop has been a beloved and much-anticipated tradition within the community. What began as a hands-on cultural activity has grown into a meaningful way for families and individuals to connect with the tradition of Ganeshotsav and bring that tradition into their own homes.
This year, more than 10 participants came together for a two-day workshop led by experienced mentors Shrikant and Sapna Savant, who guided participants through every step with patience, detailed instructions, and encouragement.
The first day was dedicated to sculpting the Ganesha idol using eco-friendly clay. Participants learned the techniques of shaping and molding the clay, transforming a simple material into their own unique representation of Bappa. The hands-on experience made the process both educational and deeply personal.
On the second day, the newly sculpted idols came to life with beautiful colors, creative detailing, and sparkling rhinestones. Each participant added their own artistic touch, making every idol special and unique.
The workshop’s greatest success, however, goes beyond the two days of sculpting and painting. Over the years, many participants have gone on to celebrate Ganeshotsav and perform Ganapati Puja in their own homes with the idols they created through this workshop. For some families, this workshop has been the beginning of a new tradition—one that continues year after year and is shared with the next generation.
For more than a decade, Shrikant and Sapna Savant have consistently nurtured this initiative, helping community members experience the joy of creating Bappa with their own hands while learning the significance behind the tradition.
ISW takes great pride in fostering and carrying forward these cultural traditions among community households. The Ganesha Idol Workshop is a beautiful example of how traditions can be preserved—not simply by observing them, but by learning, creating, participating, and passing them on to future generations.
From a piece of clay to a cherished family tradition, every idol tells a story.
